
- 500 grams fish fillets (pomfrets / salmon / Kingfish)
- 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- salt
- 3 banana leaves for fish wrapping
PATRANI MACHCHI CHUTNEY (PASTE)
- Nicely clean and wash the fish. Squeeze lime juice, turmeric powder and salt over the fish. And rub this mixture on the fish. Let it marinate it for nearly 30 minutes.
- In the mean time, blend the ingredients in Patrani Macchi Chutney (paste)(Coriander (Dhania) Leaves, Mint Leaves (Pudina), Green Chillies, Garlic cloves, Cumin Seeds (Jeera), grated Fresh Coconut, Salt , Sugar and lime juice) to a smooth chutney (paste).
- Make thin slits on the fish, on both sides. And apply this chutney (paste) over all the fish and in the thin slits on both sides generously.
- To make the banana leaves soft, place them in the steamer for a little while on both the sides. Wrap the fish pieces completely with the banana leaves with a thread tied around to keep it them firm or toothpicks can also be used instead of thread
- Place the steamer with little water on heat. Place the fish in a steamer over a pan of simmering water. Cook the patra ni machi in the steamer for 15 – 20 minutes. And the delicious dish Patrani Macchi is cooked. Serve the steamed fish in banana leaf hot with onion rings and lemon slices.1 cup coriander leaves (dhania)

- 4 green chillies (according to taste)
- 7 cloves garlic
- 2 teaspoons cumin seeds (jeera)
- 1/2 cup fresh grated coconut,
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon Lemon juice
- Clean the fish nicely with water and squeeze lime juice, turmeric powder and salt over the fish. Nicely rub this mixture on the fish and marinate it for nearly 30 minutes.
- Blend the ingredients in Patrani Macchi Chutney (paste) (Coriander Leaves (Dhania), Mint Leaves (Pudina), Green Chillies, Garlic cloves, Cumin Seeds (Jeera), grated Fresh Coconut, Salt , Sugar and Lime Juice) to a smooth chutney (paste).
- On the fish make thin slits, on both the sides. Apply this chutney (paste) all over the the fish and in the slits.
- Now place the banana leaves on the steamer on both the sides, which will make the leaves softer. And now wrap the fish pieces completely with the banana leaves with a string tied around to keep it firm or use toothpicks.
- Place the steamer with little water on heat. Place the fish in a steamer over a pan of simmering water. Cook the patra ni machchi in the steamer for 15 – 20 minutes. Serve steamed fish hot with onion rings and lemon slices.
